NOTHING IN A BAND WORLD COMES QUICKLY AND WITHOUT GRAFT.
The new Man At Q And M locked themselves away for a year. Crafting a high energy set list and song structures that would fascinate a live audience. They produced a set of original tracks on a variety of subjects that reflect the gritty world we live in. Most of these tracks can be found for free on Soundcloud and YouTube. Any covers used come from days of yore. Way back to old blues hollers and obscure tracks but brought up to date with the unique mix of surf/rockabilly/alternative blues. You could liken Man At Q And M to a British leaning towards The Black Keys or The White Stripes. Instead of singing of life in the Mississippi they sing of life on Liverpool estates (Yellow Breck Road) and unusual characters from their daily lives.
SONGS AND SET LIST.
A few local gigs in the North Wales area fine-tuned the set list. For a while the band tried adding a bespoke vocalist to the lineup. ‘It didn’t really work. Anyone coming into our fold needs to embrace the whole ethos. We decided as a collective that it’s better to sacrifice a pristine voice for energy and flair’. Songs followed thick and fast and worked around Mark’s voice and how busy he was on the guitar. The gigs allowed the band to suss what went down well, how the order worked and what bombed! ‘Pretty soon we got together a real decent set that works’. A couple of months ago Mike Badger (The La’s) saw the band playing locally and invited them to play a local festival he was heading up, this was the confirmation needed to push on.
WHERE ARE MAN AT Q AND M NOW?
Mark – ‘We’re heading into 2024 on a strong footing. We’ve already launched manatqandm.com and we’re heading into the studio early in the year. Above anything else the coming year has got to be about getting out there. So, if you know a venue or festival that needs a kick up the jacksy or if you’ve got a blacklist we want to be on it’!
