THE LONGEST RUNNING MUSIC EVENT.
So, as long as I remember in Llanrwst town there has in some form been an open mic night. Mr Michael Marsh has been the main protagonist behind these events. In the early days these were acoustic affairs. Folk bringing their acoustic instruments and no PA gathered around an open fire with a few pints displaying their wares. The Llanrwst venues have been many over the years but the most established being the Meadowsuite Hotel and currently Clwb Llanrwst Club. All comers have been welcomed. Michael (Mick) is the resident host and organises the rota, compères and is in his own right a very talented singer/songwriter/guitarist. Mick has a long-standing partner in crime Phil. Together they are a gifted and formidable duo.
MOVING WITH THE TIMES.
In recent years Mick switched the venue to Llanrwst Club. It has a very good function room with bar, stage and now a PA. This switch now enables the open mic to continue in its usual form. But… the event now embraces bands and folk with the new fangled electrical devices to turn up and perform.
NOT JUST A STANDARD OPEN MIC NIGHT.
Taking this up a level and some would say moving with the times. Mick now offers up a featured artist slot. The event is monthly usually falling on the first Friday of every month. Sandwiched between open mic artists, invited bands often new and often established can showcase their fledgling act or air the new songs in a comfortable and friendly environment. Entry for the public is free and drinks are cheap! Bonza!
SOUND AND MIX.
The added bonus of the house PA is having one of the top engineers in the area on board. Sound checking, levels and mixing. This regular unsung hero goes by the moniker of Ninja. And indeed he is. Geraint Jones is an absolute star.
Man At Q And M are in the fortunate position of having played this featured artist slot twice. It gives us the opportunity to air our new material on home turf. This coming Friday 2 February sees our third appearance at the Club. Come along support this institution, support the open mic crew and allow us to rattle your bones!
